The American Society of Bariatric Physicians

The American Society of Bariatric Physicians was formed 40 years ago to encourage excellence in the care of the overweight. ["Baros" is the Greek root word for weighty or heavy]. The Society carries a growing membership of over 1400 health care professionals all with a special interest in the study and treatment of the obese patient and in the medical conditions associated with being overweight. Membership in the ASBP is throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries. Specialties represented in the ASBP include family practice, OB-GYN, internal medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, and several others. The society encourages excellence in patient care through research, continuing education, the exchange of information and the dedication of its member physicians.
