Why is losing weight difficult?

What makes weight loss such a difficult task? There is no simple answer. How much a person eats and, as a result, weighs, is a complex relationship. For some people, being overweight is simply a result of overeating. For these few, merely cutting back on food they eat will result in weight loss. However, for most people that are obese, eating behavior is not the entire reason for their body weight. Complex genetic factors, metabolic, physiologic, and biochemical changes eventually determine for each person their individual tendencies to either become overweight or to stay slim. This is why the weight loss AND the maintenance programs should not be taken lightly. Being obese is a life-long DISEASE. It is no different a serious medical problem than high blood pressure, diabetes, or asthma. Just as there is no "7-Day Program to Cure Diabetes," there is no "7 Day Diet" or 30-Day Diet." What you are about to embark upon through the clinic is a lifelong program to control your body weight. Weight loss CAN  be accomplished. But your success is dependent on 3 major factors:

1. Your determination

2. Understanding of the program, and

3. Adherence and continuity (i.e. STAYING WITH THE PROGRAM!)

The best immediate and long term results will be made when several methods are applied at the same time. Appetite suppressants alone will not result in successful long-term weight loss. Neither will simply starting an exercise program or dieting. But, when all are combined in an integrated, controlled, supervised program, you can get the maximum benefit of all in losing weight.
